Logging & Forestry

The logging and forestry industry requires equipment that must perform at peak levels under strenuous conditions.  Logging operations handle and transport large, heavy logs and lumber from forest to lumber and sawing mills.  The equipment used must be impact- and wear-resistant and tough enough to convey heavy logs without breaking or cracking.

Due to their strength, high wear and durability, plastic compounds are used for many of the parts and components in logging equipment.  Heavy duty plastic liners, chutes and hoppers are used to move and transport logs to the mills.  High wear and self-lubricating plastics are used to manufacture components for the equipment in lumber and sawing mills.  The reliability and durability of the plastic components ensure that the machinery in the field and in the mills performs at highest levels while minimizing breakdowns and downtime.

Plastics are used in the milling equipment and heavy logging equipment for:

  • Bearings
  • Motor components
  • Wear plates
  • Guards
  • Bumpers

They are used in handling equipment for:

  • Rollers
  • Chutes
  • Bins
  • Sliders
  • Shields.

Plastic components perform better than comparable metal components due not only to their high wear and strength, but to their corrosion resistance in processes exposed to water.
